Moto GP season started on a high for Potchefstroom born Moto2 rider Brad Binder in Qatar. The Potchefstroom native had a mixed year in the 2017 season after sustaining an injury that ruled him out for most of the season but finished the season on a high with a few podium finishes. Binder finished 6th on the first leg of Moto2, after finishing in the top 10 last season on his Moto2 debut. It's a strong start for Binder who wishes to make it to Moto GP next season, also in the mix was Johannesburg born SA rider Steven Odendaal who finished 22nd. The race was won by Francesco Bagnia after beating Lorenzo Baldassarri to the line by 0.112s, a maiden victory for Francesco. Another Potchefstroomer was in action on the Moto3 GP, sadly Brad Binder 's younger brother Darryn Binder crashed out and couldn't finish his race, after he had joined Brad's team Red Bull KTM. Next on the Moto GP leg is Argentine.
